I am who I am, and I make no apology for who I am or what I believe in. I also do not choose to hate people for what they believe (unless it’s harmful or something, but that’s beside the point). I was raised a Christian as a child and essentially made to believe by most authority in my young life that not only was there no other choice, but that everything else is in essence “the devil” and they’re all going to hell. Once I began thinking for myself on such things (around 3rd grade) and questioning what was fed to me, I moved away from it and don’t ever plan on changing my mind or heart without a fight. I’ve all but lost my own father for over 4 years so far because of his hypocrisy on this matter.
Christianity is factually one of the most religiocentric belief systems in the world, meaning adherents believe they have the one and only truth and everyone else is consequentially wrong. Every once in a rare while I’m told privately on Facebook by a Christian friend that something I posted “offended them” and that I should “be more respectful” (actually going so far sometimes as to accuse me of “always” posting such “hateful” stuff). Today I posted a news article (a very accurate and verifiable one at that), countering the mindless media drivel forced upon our society that there is some kind of [imaginary] “war on Christmas”. I could potentially rant on about how excruciatingly wrong it is to impose a requirement that employees everywhere must say “Merry Christmas” or fear the wrath of a supposed “repressed” majority in lieu of the all-inclusive “Happy Holidays”, but that’s beyond the scope of what I’m saying here.
On the 9th, an image about the God/Christian relationship, according to the old-testament bible. On the 5th I essentially said “winter is winter because it’s winter” (exact quote: “Axial Tilt is the Reason for the Season“. I lol’d). Before that was a bible verse I posted on the 3rd (Jeremiah 10:2-4). Some Christians can post bible verses about how homosexuality, womanhood, and witchcraft is wrong; yes, pagans and others can post bible verses too. Nov 30th, I posted about how a pagan stone circle was destroyed by vandals, saying nothing more than that people are disrespectful. Nov 28th, an article about Christians imposing their beliefs on non-Christians at military funerals.
Further than that, I have to go all the way back to the middle of October to find a philosophical quote by Marcus Aurelius (a 3rd century Roman Emperor). “Always” is quite a stretch, isn’t it? And nothing I post is “hateful”. Hateful is Rick Parry’s “Strong” ad (which surpasses Rebecca Black’s “Friday” for more YouTube dislikes). Even on here at dOOPzOOP, the most I’ve posted so far regarding religious ridicule was of the “[c]rapture” — a “prediction” made by a VERY small group of nuts earlier this year.
I will always defend good people when it’s within my capacity to do so, be they Christians or non-Christians. The overall gist of what Christianity is/was supposed to be about is a good, beneficial thing (and I say “overall gist” because another large part of what it was developed for was to control people to various extents, and there are many multiple times in our great history when the letter of “His Law” was compelled with devastating outcomes); taking specific details of translated human writings from 2,000+ years ago to extremes or imposing one’s beliefs on others against their will is not. I’m certain I could be more insulted by an insinuation that I don’t care or that I hate/bash others’ beliefs on a regular basis than another person for whatever I might say or repost that would provoke in such a way, but I know that’s not me, I don’t do that, and I choose not to let it bother me if someone disagrees with me.
Look no further than news stories to see who’s really the persecuted group. When a murderer, robber, or any other felon is incarcerated, do they make it a point to mention “oh by the way, he’s Christian”? Nope, practically never. Not even when they’re hateful extremists. Does it make it into print on the remote chance they happen to be Pagan/Wiccan/Heathen/Muslim/Hindu/atheist/agnostic? You betcha.
So should I and the other 20-30% or more (an assumption I make because there are also many “Christians” who only answer as such because that’s how they were “raised”) of the non-Christian population deserve to be drilled in the head for over 10% of the year non-stop Christmas music? …or accused that we’re unpatriotic somehow because we dare assert that it’s exclusive to require a “Merry Christmas” and that “Happy Holidays” would indeed be better for everyone? Doesn’t it matter that the festivities of the originating pagan Winter Solstice holidays are NOT about Jesus to begin with? …or that the bulk of Abrahamic/Christian beliefs come from other belief systems? …or that Christians in high places are trying to rewrite history suggesting over and over that the founding fathers were Christian? (they weren’t — none of them) Do I not have the free speech right to educate other like-minded people just as I have been educated? Whose wall did I post these things on again?? I shall not be censored on my own forum when I’ve done nothing wrong.
Happy holidays. :o)
